Mirandalee Intimates

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

About 3 weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting & shooting Miranda-lee Aston's lookbook for her beautiful new intimates brand 'Mirandalee Initimates'. Lets just say it was one hell of a shoot! So many laughs and awkward stars from by-passes, but it was all worth it!

Here are some questions which Miranda happily answered! If you haven't already, go check out her beautiful hand-made pieces!

As a lingerie designer what is an average work day like?
Usually I wake up pretty early in the morning and will either do a work out first thing, or i will make a cup of tea while i sit in bed and go through emails, orders, inspiration and update the labels social media. This typically takes up about an hour and then I’ll shower and get ready for the day ahead. At around 8:30 I’m already sewing away getting this weeks orders done. More often then not I’m finished work by lunch time which is fantastic! I then spend the afternoon either doing the workout I possibly missed in the morning, or spending time with friends and family.

Who/what influenced you to start making lace bras?
Theres something about lace that has always had my heart in a flutter! I’ve gone through stages of wearing it, styling and decorating with it. So naturally when bralettes started to make a comeback I couldn’t help but play around with fabrics and styles, finally creating beautiful lingerie that girls everywhere (including me hehe!) would love. Bralettes are the most comfortable form of bras (for smaller ladies like me anyway!) so why not make them beautiful as well! not everything comfortable has to be hideous!

Where do you grab your inspiration from for your lace bras?
Everywhere! Pinterest is definitely a favourite, everything on there is so beautiful and arty it’s hard not to be inspired by the majority of images on there. Apart from the obvious social medias, I take inspiration from cities and tropical islands that i dream of travelling to. Hence the names of our pieces :). Even just the thought of travelling the world and being a free soul inspires me to create beautiful pieces to share with the world.

How long does it usually take you to create 1 bra?
If it’s a new style and I’m playing around with samples it can take a little while hehe! But for an average already made style it only takes aprox. 20 minutes. If i”m making a couple in the same style it can take a little less (30 minutes to do  3 etc).

How would you describe your line Mirandalee Intimates?

I would describe it as beautiful, but not your typical idea of beauty. Theres a lot of love put into every aspect of the line. A love of design, a love of the feeling females get when they wear beautiful lingerie. The label is slightly vintage, slightly bohemian and a little bit classic.

How does your products set you apart from other small lingerie designer’s?
Something that I’ve noticed is a lot of the smaller lingerie designers sway more toward the city-chic, NYC inspired designs with sharp styles and shapes. Mirandalee Intimates has a softer, more feminine feel that brings a little bit of that 1950’s shape and comfort, but with the stunning styles and delicate lace to flatter the modern woman of 2014. Keeping the pieces hand made also sets us aside as this not only ensures the quality of the pieces but it keeps the relationship alive between designer and consumer. Gone are the days where you knew exactly who was cutting and sewing, and packaging and posting your pieces. Mirandalee Intimates is all about keeping the intimacy between our customers, our products, and our team.

What is the best piece of advice you can give to someone who wants to become a clothing/lingerie designer?
DO IT! If you have a vision, you should pursue it. Our world is such an inspiring place filled with with ideas and creations trapped in the minds of humans who aren’t brave enough to step outside the box and fill the world with their inspired inventions. A top tip I have is, make sure what you’re trying to create is a necessity, NEEDED by the world. If you make them think they need it, they will buy it. For example, every female NEEDS bras… (Clever hey hehe!)

What’s something (like a motto or saying) that’s gets you through each day and motivates you?

"Do something that you love and you will never work a day in your life”. I think this quote is absolutely spot on! The motto I live by is, “Create your own happiness, because someone isn’t going to hand it to you on a silver platter. Work for it, and create it yourself. Create your life”.
